Trojans Eyeing Revenge On Dragons
Triton is headed to the sectional championship for a rematch with Argos after dismantling LaCrosse Friday in the semi-finals of the Class 1-A Triton Boys Basketball Sectional. Argos ran past Oregon-Davis in the other semi-final at the Trojan Trench.
TRITON 55, LACROSSE 26
Triton didn’t have any trouble taking control of its semi-final against LaCrosse, exploding out of the gate to an 18-5 lead after eight minutes and spreading out a 16-point lead at the half. The Trojans made it academic with a 17-5 push in the third quarter.
Ashton Oviedo led the offensive charge for Triton (14-10) with 19 points and added four steals. Oviedo was 7-11 from the floor, hitting 4-8 from distance. Tyler Heckaman had nine points and six rebounds and Jared Bules added seven points and three boards.
Triton won the rebounding battle 25-15 and forced LaCrosse into 18 turnovers.
Kyle Gorski led LaCrosse (6-16) with eight points.
Triton will play for its first sectional title since 2016.
ARGOS 50, OREGON-DAVIS 23
The Dragons punched their ticket to the championship by overwhelming the Bobcats from the get-go. Argos ran out to a 14-5 lead after a quarter, and fueled by a 16-0 run, took a 28-10 lead to the lockerroom.
The duo of Sam Manikowski and Michael Richard were too much for O-D to defend, the two combining for 28 points, 16 rebounds and three assists. The two were 11-12 from the free throw line in the contest. Owen Nifong added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Dragons.
Cameron Taylor led O-D (4-19) with seven points, six boards and a pair of blocks and Garrett Weil had six points and seven rebounds.
Argos (15-9) returns to the sectional final to meet Triton, the Dragons the defending champion after beating Triton by 10 in the championship a year ago.
