Winamac Woman Dies In Fulton County Crash
ROCHESTER — A Winamac woman died in a Fulton County vehicle accident Monday, March 2.
At approximately 2:07 p.m. Monday, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of SR 114 and Fulton County Road 1275E.
The preliminary crash investigation by Senior Trooper Todd Trottier reported that Denise Payne, 45, Winamac, was driving a 2017 Jeep Renegade north on CR 1275E, and approaching a stop sign at SR 114. Payne stopped the Jeep at the stop sign and then proceeded onto SR 114. The Jeep pulled into the path of an eastbound 1992 International semi-tractor that was pulling a trailer loaded with grain. The semi-tractor, driven by Russell Feldman, 62, Bourbon, hit the Jeep in the driver’s door.
Payne was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Feldman was not injured.
This is an ongoing investigation. At this time neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
Trooper Trottier was assisted at the crash scene by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran Hospital EMS, Henry Township Fire Department, ISP Lieutenant Brad Weaver, ISP Sergeant Rick Brown, Trooper Doug Weaver, Trooper Dustin Rutledge and Trooper Aaron Schaal.
