INDIANAPOLIS – There will be plenty of representation from the area at this weekend’s IHSAA Boys Swim State Finals. The question will be, can anyone make Day 2?

Warsaw is well represented on the heat sheets for Friday’s preliminary round, but have just one entry listed above the fold. Grant Knight is seeded seventh heading into the breaststroke finals. The Warsaw senior finished sixth at last year’s state finals in the breaststroke, and will have some local company as Northridge’s Joey Garberick is seeded sixth in the event. The two are the highest seeds of any swims from either the Warsaw or Concord sectionals.

Garberick is seeded 17th and Knight 30th in the 50 freestyle, which also had Concord’s Will Harris in 13th position.

Concord’s Tommy Brunner is listed as eighth in the 500 freestyle and Lucas Byrd is seeded eighth in the 200 free and 10th in the 100 free.

From there, teams and individuals will have to really dig deep.

Warsaw will have to make up a lot of time. While it has all three relays qualified for Friday night, the Tigers sit 27th in the 200 free, 29th in the medley and 32nd in the 400 free. The top eight places move onto Saturday’s finals, nine through 16 go to the consolation round. Warsaw’s Cooper Archer is also 32nd in the individual medley.

Elkhart Central is on the border, both its medley relay (14th) and 400 free relay (15th) are amidst a host of tight times, and Blazer Eric Kelm is seeded 23rd in the butterfly and 24th in the backstroke.

Concord has its 200 free relay above the line in 13th and Harris sitting 19th in the 100 free, and also its 400 free alive in 27th.

Northridge has the medley relay in 15th, Luke Dibley picked up for the 500 free in 17th, its 200 free relay in 23rd, and Turner Koch competing in both the IM in 23rd and butterfly in 25th.

Champions from the Warsaw Sectional competing at state include Rochester’s Mason Beall in both the 200 free in 27th and 100 free in 31st, Wabash’s Seth Blossom in the 500 free in 29th, Northfield’s Grant Dale in the backstroke in 29th and Culver Academy’s Francis Ellert in the butterfly in 31st.

Diving regionals take place Tuesday, which will have locals Caden Jenkins of NorthWood, Ethan Smith of Concord, Nick Hardy and Henry Gatzemeyer of Elkhart Central, Reid Omilian of Culver Academy, Zack Reed of Wabash, Briceton Ellington of Cass and Kadin Kelly of Rochester all competing for one of the top eight spots.
