Finalists From WCS Announced For National History Day Contest

WARSAW — Fifty-three students from Warsaw Community Schools were selected to advance to the National History Day in Indiana (NHDI) State Contest.
The trip to the state contest comes after success Northeast Region contest at Ivy Tech Coliseum Campus in Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 15, said a news release from Warsaw Community Schools.
NHDI is a yearlong program dedicated to enhancing history education in Indiana’s schools. Warsaw Community School students in grades seven through eleven explored a historical subject that fits under the annual theme of “Breaking Barriers in History.”
Advancing in the website category are Grace Ganser, Aaron Pena, Jackson Winey, McKale Hagg, Lucas Patterson, C.J. Northrop, Doondeeshwar Patnala, Elijah Zaugg, Lia Brandt, and Chloe Laird.
Advancing in the documentary category are Finn Bailey, Caleb Deuel, Robinson Hoffert, and Wyatt Stapleton.
Advancing in the performance category are Raquel Brouwer, Jayla Barhydt, Anette Flores, AJay Mitchell, Violet Ruiz-Lopez, Angie Chavez-Giron, Yandina Escobar, Alondra Flores Saldana, Joel Montoya, Melissa Ochoa, Keller Bailey, Jason Benyousky, Ethan Betances, and Ryun Hoffert.
Advancing in the exhibit category are Mia Blocher, Zoe Rice, Teagan Alley, Katie Ewing, Olivia Castro, Maya Contreras, Rachel Doyle, Abigail Davis, Leah Henderson, Addison Mehlberg, Josefina Rastrelli, Molly Kissling, Olivia Robinson-Gay, Emma Bradford, Ariel Strange, Jadyn McLeod, Alyssa Norris, Amelia Alexander, Margaret Burkholder, Celia Mangun, Tess Mangun, and Elizabeth Vander Bie.
Advancing in the paper category are Amberlee Busz, Bronwyn Harrison, and Rebekah Harrison.
Regional contests included students from Allen, DeKalb, Kosciusko, Noble, and Whitley counties. Approximately 190 students took part with finalists advancing to the NHDI State Contest, Saturday, April 25, at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, the Indiana State Government Center Convention Center and the Indiana State Library.
Carson Roe, Ian Brandt, Jobe Holderread, and Owen Stevens competed at a regional contest on Saturday, Feb. 22 for their group website NHD project titled X-15 Aircraft: Breaking the Barrier of Flight, said the news release.
