Goshen Man Flees Police After Being Found In Stolen Vehicle
WARSAW — A Goshen man faces charges after he fled from police when he was discovered in a stolen vehicle.
Christopher David Oler, 40, 409 E. Walden Ave., Goshen, is charged with theft, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Nov. 7, 2019, an Indiana State Police officer was dispatched to a location in Kosciusko County in reference to suspicious activity by a man driving a blue Toyota Scion.
When the officer arrived at the scene, he observed the blue vehicle. He checked the registration and found that the vehicle ha been reported stolen. The officer did not see anyone in the vehicle when he arrived; however, as he was approaching the vehicle, two men sat up in the vehicle, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot in different directions.
The officer began pursuing the man who had been sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle but was unsuccessful in finding him. K-9 units were deployed to assist in the search, but the men were not found.
On Nov. 8. 2019, Syracuse Police Department relayed information that they had arrested a suspect on an unrelated warrant and believed that the suspect, Oler, was one of the individuals who had fled from police Nov. 7, 2019.
A state trooper met with Oler at the Kosciusko County Jail. During the interview, Oler allegedly admitted he was in the driver’s seat of the blue Toyota Scion and that he fled from police because he had a warrant. He also stated he was aware the vehicle was stolen.
Oler was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail Feb. 13, on a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
