Pierceton Park Board Finalizes Membership
PIERCETON — The revitalized Pierceton Park Board elected officers at its second meeting, Tuesday evening, Feb. 11.
The park board members, appointed by the town council, include Kim Rose, who will serve as president of the park board. Annie Espinoza will serve as secretary. Cindy Kreger and Paula Smith will also serve on the board. Town Superintendent Casey Boggs will serve as a member and will help with the upkeep of park equipment and facilities. Additionally, Pierceton resident and Whitko School board member Georgia Tenney will serve on the board as the state-mandated representative of the local school board.
Town Attorney Tammy Keirn along with town council members Matt Brubaker and Mandy Espinoza attended the meeting to oversee the finalization of membership.
The board briefly went over the state of youth league facilities at the Pierceton-Washington Township Community Park. The board noted several issues that need to be addressed in the long-term, including sealing the concrete floor in the concession stand and sealing cracks on the tennis court before partially converting the courts for pickleball.
The board discussed rebuilding the dugout at the softball field that has fallen into disrepair.
Boggs said he could temporarily fix the issues with the dugout for the upcoming season, but a new one would be needed within one to two years. He recommended something be done “sooner rather than later,” before the start of the season on Apr. 1. The board agreed to let Boggs pursue quotes for a new dugout.
The board also discussed the usage agreement with the Pierceton Youth League. A representative from the youth league was not at the meeting to finalize the agreement. Items discussed included a payment schedule and guidelines for maintaining the concession stand.
The board mentioned working to finalize the parks budget and going over the usage agreement with the youth league at its next meeting.
The next park board meeting will be 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 4 in the community room at the Pierceton town offices, 105 West Walnut Street, Pierceton.
