Fort Wayne Man Arrested For Armed Robbery

FORT WAYNE — A month-long joint investigative effort by the Indiana State Police and the Fort Wayne Police Department resulted in the arrest of a Fort Wayne Man on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in regards to an armed robbery incident that occurred at an Economy Inn.
Gage Christopher Oberley, 20, Fort Wayne, is charged with robbery, a level 3 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; and possession of a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor.
On Jan. 9, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were called to investigate an early morning shooting incident at the Economy Inn on West Coliseum Boulevard. According to an ISP press release, this initial investigation led to the discovery of an injured man who reported having been battered and robbed at gunpoint in the the parking lot of the Economy Inn. Over the course of this past month, detectives with the Indiana State Police and the Fort Wayne Police Department continued diligently following investigative leads in this case and were successful in identifying Obesely as the perpetrator.
On Feb. 4, officers assigned to the FWPD Gang Task Force intercepted Oberley during the course of an unrelated traffic stop. Once identified, Oberley was taken into custody without incident and interviewed by state police detectives. Oberley was then taken to the Allen County Jail and booked into custody on charges related to the armed robbery incident. He remains in custody pending an initial hearing.
