NORTH WEBSTER — Celebrate Valentine’s Day with some delightful afternoon sweets at North Webster Community Public Library.

The library is hosting an Afternoon Delights Dessert Bar 1:30 – 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 to raise funds to construct its new building. Tickets for the dessert bar cost $7 per person and include a selection of homemade desserts. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the circulation desk or from Friends of the Library members. Buy two tickets and bring your sweetie, said a news release from North Webster Community Public Library.

The library is also spearheading Operation Paperback and partnering with Warsaw American Legion Post 49 to collect and ship new and gently used paperback books to active U.S. Military personnel serving overseas. Those wanting to donate new or good quality used paperback books can drop them off at the library’s circulation desk. Warsaw American Legion will then ship them overseas for distribution to those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The goal is to ship 20 boxes by May 15.

The Youth Department invites the public to Take Your Child to the Library Day on Saturday, Feb. 8 and join in this annual international celebration of the importance of libraries in the lives and education of children. Special activities are planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. including crafts, button making, activity sheets, scavenger hunts, balloons, prizes, storytimes throughout the day and a photo booth to commemorate your visit. Lego Time will be 1-2:30 p.m.

There will also be a book swap that day. To participate in the book swap, bring in gently used children’s books in advance, receive a ticket for each book, then return on Feb. 8 and trade in your tickets for books others have brought in. It is a good way to upgrade your child’s book collection for free.

Although an Evergreen library card is needed to borrow books and materials, everyone is welcome to utilize the library and participate in adult and children’s activities even without a card.
