Wawasee Wins Ugly Over Lakeland
LAGRANGE – Neither team will likely spend time watching film with a smile on their face Thursday after a 92.075-89.35 Wawasee win over Lakeland on the gymnastics equipment.
On a night that saw the second-place bars score post as 6.85 and top floor score of 8.6 be followed by a runner-up of 8.075, it was Wawasee that found just enough to clear 90 and get out of LaGrange with a win.
Aundreya Wegener won the beam for Wawasee at 8.75, followed by Olivia Ousley’s 8.15. That was the only top-two for Wegener, which finished with a 31.325 all-around number, a full three points short of her all-around figure Tuesday at Warsaw.
Ousley had a 7.9 to lead the Warriors on the floor and Talia Kuhl added an 8.85 on vault.
The Warriors were without both Emma Ebright and Layla Scott to injury.
Lakeland had Emily Byler lead the way on vault with an 8.9, 7.45 on bars and 8.6 on floor. Byler won the all-around with a 31.85. Natalie Huffman added 6.85 on bars and 8.075 on floor.
“We feel evenly matched with Lakeland, so we knew it would be a good meet,” stated Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “Ebright was definitely missed on the varsity roster, as she normally places in the top five on several events. Kenady Meerzo had her best meet of the season, placing in all events and the all-around.
“Way too many falls on beam. We hope to clean things up before our home meet against East Noble on Monday.”
Wawasee returns to action Monday at home against East Noble.
