Warsaw Man Faces Charges After Alleged Vehicle Theft
WARSAW — A Warsaw man faces additional charges following a vehicle theft.
Jerald Jerome Womack, 57, 601 West Prairie Street, faces a charge of theft, a level 6 felony; and driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor.
These charges appear to be separate from the charges on which Womack was booked Jan. 22; resisting law enforcement, possession marijuana/hash oil/hashish and driving while suspended.
On Jan. 19, at about 10:25 p.m. police responded to a report of vehicle theft. The owner alleged that Womack stole the maroon 1999 Ford Ranger, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Police drove by Womack’s residence at 601 West Prairie St. They did not see the vehicle at his residence.
While speaking with the vehicle’s owner, she said her son had possession of the vehicle immediately prior to the alleged theft. The owner’s son said he picked up Womack at his home on West Prairie Street and drove him to a 2005 Ford F150 on Lake Street in Warsaw. The owner’s son said when he exited the Ford Ranger making his way toward the Ford F150, Womack slid into the driver’s seat and drove off, said the affidavit.
Later on Jan. 19, Womack called the owner’s son and said he was at an apartment building in the area of West Winona Avenue and Harding Street in Warsaw. Police drove to the area but did not find the Ford Ranger. They did, however, find the vehicle at Womack’s residence.
After reviewing Womack’s driving record, police discovered his driving privileges were suspended indefinitely.
Womack has an updated bond of $5,250 surety and cash, said the affidavit.
