Local Bowlers See Seasons End At Semi-state
SOUTH BEND – Two bowlers from area schools reached the semi-state level of the Indiana High School Bowling state tournament. Chippewa Avenue became the end of the road for the duo, however, at Chippewa Lanes.
Warsaw’s Brooklyn Slone posted a three-game score of 490, falling short of the mark to make the ladder in the girls tournament. Rochester’s Baylie Navarro had a good showing, posting a 597 to finish second in the three-game series, then in the step ladder, she beat Chelsea Matthews of Griffith 206-116. In the next round, Navarro topped Michigan City’s Alexandra Hahn 173-154 in the semis, but in the final Elkhart Central’s Katie Fraser earned the top spot with a 206-200 thriller over Navarro.
On the boys side, NorthWood senior Skyler Duerksen also landed outside of the mark in qualification. Duerksen, who cited issues in gauging the oil patterns in the lanes, came to a close with a three-game score of 495.
Penn’s boys and Elkhart Memorial’s girls were able to reach the state finals based off team performance.
