Valley Boys Gain Edge On Huntington North
HUNTINGTON – The Valley boys swimmers used a big night from Mason Stephen to overwhelm an undermanned Huntington North Thursday night.
Valley posted an 87-27 win in the boys slate while the North girls used a sweep of all 11 events to best Valley, 100-58.
Stephen won the individual medley at 2:17.60 and the breaststroke at 1:10.46. With North not fielding a freestyle relay team, Valley would win both by default, Stephen anchoring the 400 free at 4:43.34 and the 200 free within .07 of each other, the winner at 1:54.93.
Brandon Hoffman added a 55.22 win in the 100 freestyle to help Valley’s showing.
The boys table didn’t have an entry in four events, reflecting in the final score.
Huntington won all 11 of the contested events, neither team throwing a diver.
The quartet of Alyssa Brinkman, Allie Aschliman, Laney Shaw and Mya MacAleese did nearly all the damage for the host Vikings. Brinkman won the 200 free (2:32.20) and backstroke (1:15.24), Aschliman the IM (2:31.62) and butterfly (1:06.00), Shaw the 50 (28.31) and 100 (1:01.86) freestyles, and MacAleese the 500 free (6:25.39) and breaststroke (1:18.67). The four were responsible for the medley relay (2:10.41) and 400 freestyle (4:31.67) wins as well.
While Valley didn’t have an event winner, Alejandra Jimenez did set two personal bests in 50 freestyle (35.73) and backstroke (1:49.74).
Valley returns home Tuesday to host rival Rochester.
