Tigers Take Down Vikings
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley wrestling hosted Warsaw in match-up between area rivals, and the Tigers came out on top, 47-27 Wednesday night.
The first team score went to Warsaw as Brandon Estepp earned a pinfall win over Valley’s Brandon Hammer in just 43 seconds at 170 pounds. Bazle Owens evened the score for the Vikings with a third-period pinfall of Jayton Brock at 182, but Brock Hueber pinned Tyler Nine in under a minute at 195 to give the visitors back the lead, and Angel Mendez earned a tough 10-6 decision over Johnny Gonsalez to stretch that advantage to nine points.
Hagaen Slusher pinned Warsaw’s Wyatt Klinker at heavyweight, and the Vikings picked up forfeits at 106 and 113 to put Valley ahead 24-15, but the Tigers went on a run from there.
Jose Martinez won a 15-5 major decision over Alex Parson at 120, Andrew Ross and Brock Hogenson both won by pinfall at 126 and 132, Isaiah Owens earned another major decision for Warsaw via 18-7 margin over Branson McBrier, at 138 and Liam Nolin won by pin at 145.
Valley picked up one more win at 152 as Joel Ordaz-Cisneros out-pointed Chris McaFoose by a narrow 7-6 margin before Jacob Linky closed the meet with a victory by pinfall at 160.
Prior to the varsity action, Warsaw JV wrestlers won four of five head-to-head matches. Warsaw JV winners by pin were Jaxson Walters, Jackson Bradly and William Roberts. Cole Wallen earned an exciting double-overtime win as well.
