Tigers Top Eagles In Sectional Preview
WARSAW – One of the teams directly in the way of Warsaw’s ambitions in the postseason is Columbia City. The Eagles showed up at the Warsaw Community Pool Friday morning for a double dual against the Tigers, and the hosts posted a pair of positive results.
WARSAW BOYS 109, COLUMBIA CITY 67
The Tigers topped the charts in nine of the 12 events, including all three relays. Zach LaLonde, Grant Knight, Cooper Archer and Jacob Monesmith won the medley, while LaLonde, Knight, Michael Ray and Gabe Bowers took the 200 free relay. In the 400 free relay, Ray, Monesmith, Archer and Nathan Taylor had the fastest performance.
Ray and Knight both had double wins as individuals, Ray in the 100 and 200 frees, and Knight in the 50 free and breaststroke. Archer added a win in the individual medley and Greg Rodriguez started the day with a diving triumph. Taylor and LaLonde had runner-up performances for the Tigers.
WARSAW GIRLS 111, COLUMBIA CITY 69
Much was the same in the girls ledger, as Warsaw won nine of 12 events. The team of Lily Boston, Melissa Deming, Mariana Malagon and Taylor Gunter won the medley relay and Boston, Gunter, Malagon and Rachel Doyle closed the 400 free relay. Malagon also swept her individual races, winning the IM and 100 free.
Warsaw winners included Boston in the 50, Gunter in the fly, Deming in the 500, Gracie Willig in the 200 free and Grayson Kilburn in diving. Deming and Gunter also added runner-up times as did the Tiger 200 free relay.
Warsaw’s boys will compete for the Northern Lakes Conference title next Saturday when it visits Concord, both sitting undefeated heading into the final week of conference competition. Warsaw’s girls will also meet Concord in its final NLC dual before the NLC Championships the following week.
