Wawasee Gymnasts Get Jump On Season

LAPORTE – Wawasee’s very young and inexperienced gymnastics team got a taste of the 2019-20 season with work at the LaPorte Pairs meet Saturday morning.
Wawasee sent three trios into the fray, the team of Emma Ebright and Aundreya Wegener placing 12th in the standings with their all-around total of 31.6. The team of Talia Kuhl and Olivia Ousley were 16th with a 29.2 team score. Kenady Meerzo and Layla Scott did not score.
The meet, which combines team output into a general score in four event categories, has Ebright and Wegener score 7.7 on vault, 7.5 on bars, 8.6 on beam and 7.8 on floor. The team of Kuhl and Ousley topped out at 8.3 on vault and 8.2 on floor.
The top scores of the meet came from the Chesterton duo of Alyssa Donovan and Mia Pak, which used 9.55 on vault, 9.8 on bars, 9.1 on beam and 9.3 on floor to compile a 37.75 all-around figure, bettering the 36.65 from teammates Caitlyn Cook and Chloe Larson. Chesterton also had the three-place score of 36.2. Portage was fourth and Crown Point was fifth among the six teams in action.
Wawasee returns to action Jan. 4 at the Blazer Invite in Elkhart.
