Dulcimer Lessons Available At North Webster Library
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Community Public Library announced music lessons and more for the week of Dec. 16-21.
The upcoming week offers a full slate of activities in which to participate. If you like to write, come to Writer’s Corner at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, and bring an essay you have written about “the look” and share it with other writers. If you have read a good holiday book lately, bring it to share and discuss it at Voyager Book Club later that day at 1 p.m.
Do you like to play games? Then come to Adult Game Day at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and join in playing a group party game. Revolving Recipe Round-Up meets at 5:30 p.m. that evening for foodies who enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. December’s food focus is casseroles, so prepare your favorite casserole, or try a new one and bring it to share, along with the recipe. The library provides table service and coffee.
If you enjoy genealogy, Glean Team is a group of seasoned genealogists that meets at 10 a.m. the first three Wednesdays each month to collaborate on genealogy projects. Adult Coloring at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, offers a relaxing time of coloring and chatting. Bring your own coloring sheets and supplies.
In the Youth Department, Crafts and Stories are offered at 4 p.m. every Tuesday where kids can make a craft while listening to stories. Also, every Tuesday therapy dog Mindy visits from 4 to 5 p.m. for private reading sessions with kids. Children who want to practice their oral reading skills can schedule an appointment with this gentle canine at the Youth Services Desk or by calling (574)-834-7122 ext. 202.
The library will close early at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, for a private staff and volunteer event.
Would you like to learn to play the mountain dulcimer? Now is your chance. Leila Dailey will offer group dulcimer lessons at North Webster Community Public Library 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 14, 21; Feb. 4, 11, 18; Mar. 3, 10, 17, 31; and Apr. 7. Students must bring their own dulcimers and music stands, and instructional books will be available to purchase at the first class. Although the lessons are free, Dailey will accept goodwill donations for her time and service, said a news release from North Webster Community Public Library.
If you are interested in learning to play this traditional folk instrument of the Appalachians, sign up at the library’s circulation desk or call (574)834-7122 by Dec. 30. These lessons are for adults only.
The library invites patrons to a lunch fundraiser from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the North Webster Community Center banquet hall. Tickets cost $10 each and must be purchased in advance at circulation desk. Lunch menu includes a selection of soups, salads, dessert and drink. A limited number of tickets is available with no ticket sales at the door. Proceeds will go to the Building and Sustainability Fund to help build the new library.
In the Youth Department, a family movie will be shown at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26. It is an action-adventure film about a teen who moves from the jungle to high school, but soon begins an adventure for a lost city of gold with a motley crew of characters. The movie is rated PG and runs 102 minutes. Free popcorn included.
The next day Friday, Dec. 27 Family Bingo starts at 1 p.m. for kids of all ages. Multiple rounds of bingo will be played with lots of prizes given away. Each round lasts until everyone wins.
The library will be closed all day on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24; Christmas Day, Dec. 25; New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31; and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.
