GRACE 118, GOSHEN 82

Grace’s women’s basketball team set two major records during the Crossroads League opener on Tuesday.

The Lady Lancers broke the single-game scoring record for the second time this season in a 118-82 rout of Goshen.

The previous scoring record for a game was set 10 days ago when Grace scored 117 points against Holy Family.

Grace improved to 8-1 (1-0 CL) with the win, setting the mark for best start in program history.

“Tonight, this is the best half of basketball we’ve played on both sides of the ball, the passion offensively and defensively,” said Grace head coach Dan Davis. “We were just relentless on each end. To have 98 points after three quarters, and just give up 51, and to be able to sit your starters and get into the bench for the fourth quarter, these girls all clicked today. This was one to see.”

The Lady Lancers shot an eye-popping 57 percent overall as a team, including 15-of-27 (56 percent) from beyond the arc. Grace also made 92 percent of its free throws (23-25).

It did not take Grace long to assume control of the contest. Goshen held a small 6-3 edge in the opening minutes, but the Lady Lancers erupted with 13 straight points and never looked back.

Vironnica Drake had seven points during Grace’s 13-0 run.

Goshen burned a pair of timeouts in the first quarter, but the tactic did little to slow Grace’s momentum. The Lady Lancers ended the quarter ahead 26-12.

Kyannah Stull was a driving force offensively to start the second quarter; the junior scored 10 points in just four minutes before picking up her second foul and heading to the bench.

Brooke Treadway picked up the scoring slack after Stull subbed out. The post scored eight points in short succession to keep Grace’s attack at a high pace.

The Lady Lancers went into halftime with a commanding 59-26 advantage. Grace shot 63 percent from the floor and hit 14-of-14 from the free throw line.

The Maple Leafs (6-3, 0-1 CL), on the other hand, had 11 turnovers and shot 24 percent from the floor.

The third quarter was much of the same. Grace had its best offensive quarter, erupting for 39 points. Grace led by as much as 50 points in the period.

The Lady Lancers were deadly from deep in the third quarter with seven 3-pointers. Stull drilled three of those triples, and Kamryn Hostetler hit a pair.

Grace subbed out its starters early in the fourth quarter, and the Lady Lancers coasted to a 36-point victory.

Stull had 24 points in just 18 minutes, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor, 6-of-9 from the 3-point line and 4-of-4 from the foul line. She added three assists and four rebounds.

Drake had 24 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. She shot 6-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.

Maddie Ryman scored a career-high 20 points by shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. She hit three 3-pointers to go along with four assists and four boards.

“Maddie is coming into her own,” Davis said. “Coming off the bench, she brings a spark, man. You know her effort and intensity she plays with, she is going to make things happen. You know that development is just going to get better.”

Hostetler finished with 14 points, 6 assists, 3 boards, 3 steals and 0 turnovers. Treadway added 12 points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Lexi Minix had a busy night, nabbing six steals and handing out four assists while scoring six. Micaela Box added nine points and three assists.

“The one thing we are getting up and down the bench, it’s players like Lexi is that she totally understands her role,” Davis said. “We were always on her about fouling. But then tonight you see her improvement in discipline. It’s the little things she brings, 2-3 from the floor, 2-2 from the line, six points, four assists, zero turnovers, six steals. It doesn’t jump off the sheet, but as a coach, those things show up to us.”

The Lady Lancers are off for a week. Grace’s next game is at Taylor on Dec. 4.

NORTHWOOD 62, TRITON 25

NorthWood’s bigs were too much for Triton in the victory at The Pit.

Maddy Payne scored 22 points and Kate Rulli added 12 points for the Black Swish, which scored 23 points in the opening quarter in building a 15-point lead. Alea Minnich added 12 of her 17 points in the first half.

Taren Yates led the Trojans with seven points, all coming in the first half, and four other teammates withed with four points.

Triton won the JV matchup 21-20.

PENN 41, WARSAW 28

The Kingsmen won the matchup at the Tiger Den, using 14 points from Trinity Clinton and 12 points from Reaganne Pate. Caroline Morris added seven points and 10 rebounds for the Kingsmen.

Warsaw struggled from the outside, going 1-11 from three-point range in the game. Just six Tigers scored, led by seven points from Kaylee Patton and Brielle Harrison.

Penn also won the undercards, taking the JV game 43-25 and freshman game 28-23. Marin Hart led Warsaw in the JV game with seven points.

TIPPECANOE VALLEY 62, MACONAQUAH 34

Valley earned the home win to open Three Rivers Conference play, storming out to a 20-2 lead after a quarter and spreading out a 28-point bulge at the half. Sidney Wagner was the high scorer for the Vikes with 19 points, followed by Hayley Backus and Kaydence Mellott with 13 points each. JIllian Walls added nine points.

Lilly Maple led the Braves with 15 points.

Valley opened the night with a 49-31 win in the JV matchup. Molly Moriarty paced the home side with 15 points and Lily Ault added 11 points.

NORTH MIAMI 64, LCA 24

North Miami put the clamps on LCA from the outset, running out to a 23-0 first quarter lead and never looking back.

Bailey Keim led the Warriors with 24 points and Maryann Freeman tossed in 12 points for the hosts.

Jessi Calizo and Tori Calizo combined for 14 points, 16 rebounds and eight steals for LCA, but the Cougars as a team had 37 turnovers.
