WAWASEE 55, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 36
Solid win for the Lady Warriors to open its season Saturday night at the Hardwood Teepee.
Emily Haines jumped into varsity play and scored 12 points to go with three rebounds and three steals to pace the Warriors. Kennedy White and Hannah Lancaster each had nine points and three rebounds and combined for eight steals.
After leading by just seven at the half, 25-18, Haines scored 10 of her points in the second half to help the Warriors pull away.
Alex German had 14 points and Kennedy Kugler had 13 points for the Heights.
Wawasee eeked out a 20-19 win in the JV contest. Blair Harker and Amari Peete each notched six points in the win.
PENN 51, NORTHWOOD 33
The Class 4-A preseason No. 7 Kingsmen were able to pull away from NorthWood in a Saturday matinee at The Palace.
A balanced diet from Penn (2-0) allowed the hosts to hold off NorthWood (1-1). Penn had Trinity Clinton lead the way with 12 points, with Julia Economou with 11 points and Reganne Pate and Antreese Shelton both finishing with eight points.
NorthWood, falling behind by double digits in the third quarter, crept back within seven, but couldn’t keep up. Kate Rulli, after scoring 31 points in the season opener against Riley, had just eight points. Maddy Payne led NorthWood with 12 points. The Panthers had just one field goal from the rest of its roster.
Penn won the JV contest 72-13 over the Panthers.
WHITKO 39, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 32
Whitko steadily pulled ahead and past LCA in Winona Lake.
After LCA took a 9-8 lead after the first quarter, Whitko took a two-point lead, 17-15, at the half and continued to ascent to the win.
LCA (0-1) had quite a defensive showing, posting 16 steals, nine blocks and 27 rebounds on the night, but couldn’t get the ball through the cylinder down the stretch. Tori Calizo led the Cougars with 10 points and nine rebounds, Jessi Calizo had eight points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists and Finley Hobbs had six points, four steals, three assists, three rebounds and two blocks.
Elizabeth Miller led the Wildcats with 12 points while Haley Howard and Kayla Schipper each had nine points.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS 42, SOUTH BEND CAREER ACADEMY 36
The Cougars battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit to beat SBCA. Isaiah Lara dropped in 17 points to lead LCA and Micah Martin had 13 points. The B team lost 39-11, Braden Weirick pacing LCA with six points.
