North Webster Council Learns About Grant And Leaf Pickup
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Town Council learned it had a $200,000 grant at its meeting on Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, at the North Webster Community Center.
Council also passed its annual budget in the amount of $1,702,909.
CEO and president of K21 Foundation Rich Haddad visited to explain that the board of K21 Heath Foundation had extended these grants to the nine communities in Kosciusko County. Warsaw and Winona Lake are not included.
“The goal is to support each town to find ways to spend the money on health and wellness. It is an open-ended pledge with no time frame. The best plan will assist the residents. Town council will be the lead organization in each location,” said Haddad.
In other matters, Utilities Manager Jayne Alger reported leaf pickup is ready to begin as soon as crews see piles on the curbs. She also noted the A pump had been replaced with a much quieter model, three trees will be removed by Mickem & Sons Tree Service, Station 5 has a new pump and the department met all compliances. Drew Kuhn attended training in Katy, Texas, through Inframark.
Candace Smythe gave the North Webster Police Department report in the absence of Chief Greg Church. “Town trick or treat hours are 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. As the bridge will probably still be closed until mid-November and traffic is now heavy along Dixie Drive, people need to drive slowly and cautiously all the time but especially Halloween,” she noted. Council President Lisa Strombeck suggested flashers or other warnings and Alger said the utilities department would assist.
There were 281 calls of service for the police during September with the most, 68, being traffic related. Officers worked 760.75 hours and drove 4,416 miles using 345.7 gallons of fuel.
Town Attorney Jack Birch will get back to the owner of 308 S. Sycamore St. by the end of the week to determine who adjoining property owners are to an easement. Trees may need to be removed.
The next meeting for the town council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St. This is a week earlier than usual.
