Panthers Advance, Tigers Close At Tennis Regionals

NorthWood advanced to the championship at the Concord Regional with a convincing win over DeKalb Tuesday night. The Panthers now face Westview in a championship rematch Wednesday after the Warriors topped Northridge in another 4-1 semifinal Tuesday.
Wes Troyer downed Landon Holwerda 6-2, 6-1 at 1 singles, and Jack Wysong and Landon Holland topped Evan Ostrowskia and Trey Novak, 6-2, 6-3 at the 1 doubles spot. Ben Vincent put away Carmen Rieke, 6-2, 6-1, at 2 singles, and Chase Horner stopped Gavin Swift, 6-3, 6-0 at 3 singles.
Wednesday’s championship is a rematch of a nip-tuck regular-season meet last month, when the Warriors handed the 17-1 Panthers their only loss of the season via 3-2 defeat with the 3 singles and both doubles matches all going three sets. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
PERU 5, WARSAW 0
Peru shut out Warsaw, and the host Eagles eliminated Bremen 4-1 at the Culver Academies Regional Tuesday night.
Tiger No. 1 Caleb Williams took Peru’s Ryan Smith to three sets but ultimately fell, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Cole Rhodes and Carter Schuh were competitive in their straight-set loss to Gabe Baker and Ben Beckman at 2 doubs, 7-5, 6-4, and Hayden Anderson took six games from Brade Ryan at 3 singles before falling, 6-3, 6-3.
