Stewart Scores Late in LCA Win
WINONA LAKE — Matthew Helton connected with Parker Stewart to break a stalemate in the 77th minute, and Lakeland Christian Academy beat visiting Trinity School at Greenlawn 1-0 Friday night.
“This was a fantastic and competitive match,” said LCA coach Dan Miller. “We showed great resilience to bounce back from our poor effort on Tuesday.”
The Cougars were out-shot 19-11 in total shots on goal at the match, but keeper Peter Koller collected 19 saves in the shutout. Trinity’s George Aranowski stopped 10 shots before Stewart slotted away the game-winner in the final minutes.
“Parker Stewart had a phenomenal goal, and Landon Paris led our defensive effort. Aiden McQuade and Brayden Lane played really well in midfield, and Peter Koller in goal had one of his best games of the season,” said Miller. “This is the first time in many years that we’ve won two conference games, and guys earned.”
LCA improves to 10-5 overall with a 2-3 Northern Indiana Soccer Conference mark. Trinity slipped to 10-4-1 with a 2-2 conference mark.
The Cougars are facing a quick turnaround at Rochester Saturday at 10 a.m.
