Martin Jones To Perform Solo Piano Show At Manchester

Martin Jones will perform piano solos at Manchester University, Nov 12.
MANCHESTER — The Manchester University Department of Music will present a solo piano recital by guest artist Martin Jones at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12.
The performance will be in Wine Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.
“An Evening of Contemporary Music for Solo Piano” includes works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Jonathan Newmark, Robert Fleisher, Harry Bulow, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, William Neil, Bruce Mahin, Franz Reizenstein and Tim Reed, chair of the Music Department at Manchester University.
Jones is one of Britain’s most highly regarded solo pianists. He achieved international attention in 1968 when he received the Dame Myra Hess Award. Since then, he has performed at Queen Elizabeth Hall and Carnegie Hall and has been in demand for recitals and concerto performances on both sides of the Atlantic.
Jones has performed as a concerto soloist with many of the leading British orchestras, as well as in the United States and Russia. He toured in Canada as a soloist with the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra.
A prolific recording artist, he has recorded many discs for Nimbus Records, including works by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Debussy, Grainger, Stravinsky and Szymanowski.
He recorded several Spanish piano masters, with Volume 2 of the series receiving the 2000 Classical Indie Award from the Association of Independent Music.
Some of his most recent releases include Gershwin transcriptions by Earl Wind, major piano works by Hans Gal and the complete piano works of Rafael Gustavino, Ernesto Halffter and Joaquin Nin. He is currently recording Carl Czerny’s sonatas.
