NOBLESVILLE – This past weekend proved to be a big deal for local junior golfer, Cal Hoskins. The 16-year-old Warsaw Community High School sophomore fired a two-day total of six-under par 138 (68-70) to capture the overall title at The Golfweek Junior Tour event held at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville.
Purgatory was the host site of the 2019 Indiana Amateur Championship this past June.
Hoskins carded 12 birdies over 36 holes to finish two shots clear of Ball State commit, Griffin Hare, and three shots clear of Purdue commit, Nic Hofman, Wake Forest commit, Clay Stirsman. The victory is Hoskins’ second of the 2019 season after winning the IGA Central Masters at Ulen Country Club in June.
This weekend’s victory also comes with a punched ticket to the 2020 IMG Junior World Championships at famed Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, California. More than 200 golfers from 60+ countries convene on the iconic Southern California golf destination to compete for one world championship.
Hoskins took the opportunity to thank some people during the awards ceremony, “I would like to thank my parents for giving me opportunities to get better and for always driving me around to tournaments. Also my coach, Matt DeJohn, for helping me with my swing and to Golfweek & Purgatory for hosting such a great event. I really appreciate everyone who made this possible.”
