Grace Announces Newest HOF Inductees
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College Athletic Department will induct four members into the Lancer Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 5: Jon Hueni, Joe Graham, Janine Zeltwanger and Trent Lehman.
The 2019 induction class is Grace’s 12th class. The group will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame Breakfast on Oct. 5 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, coinciding with Grace’s Homecoming weekend.
“It’s exciting to honor Grace’s rich athletic history,” said Grace’s Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “This is an accomplished group of people who have added much to Grace Athletics. They deserve to be recognized for their contributions to our institution.”
Hueni is one of the most decorated individuals in the history of Grace men’s tennis. He was a four-time All-Conference player, and he was the first men’s tennis player at Grace to qualify for NAIA Nationals. He helped the Lancers to three conference championships and saw the team go undefeated twice during his career from 1973-78.
Graham was an accomplished men’s basketball player. He was named NCCAA All-American three times and was twice voted as the conference Player of the Year. He racked up 1,846 points from 1984-87 and was selected as the Murchison Award winner in 1987, the highest honor given out by the NCCAA.
Zeltwanger was a letter winner in three different sports (basketball, volleyball, softball) from 1981-85 and is being inducted for her meritorious service to Grace College Athletics. While she lives in Indianapolis, Zeltwanger has continued to be very involved and supportive of all the athletic programs at Grace. She currently serves as a board member at Grace College.
Lehman was a four-year letter winner for Grace’s men’s basketball team from 1990-94. He played an important role during Grace’s 1992 NAIA national championship squad, earning NAIA All-Tournament recognition after the Lancers cut down the nets. He produced 1,923 career points and 478 assists, ranking in the top 10 of both categories for the Lancers.
“We want to thank those individuals who have brought much distinction and honor to Grace College and have established a tradition of Christian excellence which is incomparable,” Briscoe continued. “These achievements have touched everyone associated with Grace College both in and out of the arena of athletics.”
The Hall of Fame Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. The inductees will also be honored at halftime of the Homecoming soccer game, which starts at 1:30 p.m. To purchase Hall of Fame Breakfast tickets, call Grace’s athletic office at (574) 272-5100 ext 6266.
