Chicago Doghouse In Warsaw Slated To Close, But Is For Sale
WARSAW — Jeremy Harshman’s young and expanding family has outgrown the restaurant business.
Harshman, who owns and operates Chicago Doghouse at 1527 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, with his wife, Courtney, announced this week that the restaurant is for sale and that the last day of business will be a week from today on Friday, Sept. 27.
The owners announced the decision on Facebook earlier this week, writing, “Unless we find a buyer for the Chicago DogHouse very soon, the restaurant will be closing. Regardless, we are retiring from the restaurant business with a growing family in mind!”
The couple acquired the existing restaurant nearly five years ago shortly after getting married. Their first child, a son, is nearly 2 and a second is due in about five weeks.
Jeremy said they want to be out of the restaurant business before Courtney gives birth.
“We started growing the family next to the business and the family has taken more attention than the restaurant is going to get from us,” Jeremy said.
The ownership has been a positive experience, but it also opened their eyes to the challenges of operating a restaurant.
“Being a restaurant owner is probably one of the most difficult things a person could do, let alone a couple. Pretty proud that we were able to make it this far and double the business in that amount of time,” Jeremy said in a recent phone call.
He said they’ve been discussing the sale with numerous people in hopes that it remains open.
In the Facebook post, the owners thanked their customers.
“Closing the Doghouse is one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made, but keeping our marriage and growing family healthy has topped the priority scale.”
