Local Attorney James Walmer Announces Retirement
WARSAW — After nearly 45 years of practicing law in Kosciusko County, Attorney James L. Walmer has announced his retirement.
Walmer moved to Indiana and began his work as an attorney in Warsaw on Dec. 14, 1974. Walmer has been a staple in the law profession during his tenure in Kosciusko County. He has received many recognitions such as being listed on the list of “Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America” in 1993-94 by The Marquis Who’s Who Publications Board.
Throughout his profession, Walmer served as the Winona Lake and Pierceton Town Attorneys for 42 years and 36 years, respectively. One of the most famous and interesting cases he handled was the controversial last photo ever taken of the King of Rock n’ Roll, Elvis Presley. Walmer’s client took a photo of Presley as he drove away after his last concert. Walmer said when receiving the call that besides intrigue, his initial thought was “I knew this needed to stay quiet.”
In 1977, Walmer married his wife, Carolyn, at First United Methodist Church in Warsaw, where they enjoyed raising their four boys, Ryan, Chris, Jon and Geoff. Walmer said he is looking forward to spending time with his wife, children and 12 grandchildren during retirement.
“I am grateful for the support of my clients and colleagues as well as the entire community of Warsaw and Kosciusko County,” said Walmer. “I look forward to this next chapter in life filled with quality family time.”
