Silver Lake Fall Cleanup Oct. 5; Gun Raffle To Benefit Fire Department
SILVER LAKE — The Silver Lake fall cleanup date was announced at the town council meeting Wednesday, Sept. 11. Fall cleanup will be held Oct. 5. This is for Silver Lake residents only.
Items should be placed out on Friday evening, Oct. 4, because pickup will start at 7 a.m. or earlier Saturday morning. The following items are prohibited and will not be accepted for pickup: paint, oil, tires, large appliances, extra-large furniture, televisions, computers, microwaves, lawn waste and anything containing freon.
Attorney Dan Vanderpool petitioned the council on behalf of his clients to vacate a parcel of land between their home at 1005 Edgewater Drive and the lake. The council approved the request and passed Ordinance 09-01-19 following the closure of a public hearing that consisted of no objections from neighbors or other citizens.
A representative from Advanced Solar, Leesburg, answered questions from the council regarding solar panels for the fire station. Three quotes were submitted, including one from Collier’s Solar, Warsaw, and two from Advanced Solar, with one consisting of roof mounting and the other featuring ground mounting.
The council approved Advanced Solar’s roof-mounted quote for $53,576.89. The panels are expected to be installed by the end of the year.
Teresa Martin announced events that will take place at the Silver Lake Community Center, located at 979 W. SR 14, Silver Lake. The events will be posted on the town’s website under the events calendar at www.townofsilverlake.com.
Tickets are available for the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department annual gun raffle. The tickets may be purchased from any SL firefighter. Cost is $20 per ticket. The winner gets their choice of a Glock 19, Gen 4 Safe Action or a Ruger 308 bolt action. The winner may also choose to receive $500 cash instead of a gun. The drawing will be Nov. 7.

- The next regular meeting will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.
