WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for sexual battery after a woman said she woke up to find a man on top of her and engaging in intercourse.
Robert Paul Snell, 44, 920 Anchorage Road, Warsaw, is being charged with sexual battery, a level 6 felony.
On June 2, Warsaw Police Department was contacted by Snell who said that on June 2, he went to a friend’s residence. He said that he and a female went into the bedroom to lay down and when he woke he “found they were both naked.”
Snell said that the female forced him out of the residence at gunpoint around 2 a.m. Snell told the officer that he is concerned he may be accused of something he did not commit.
The officer then spoke with the woman. According to the affidavit of probable cause, she said she was at a cookout and that Snell was also there “drinking heavily.” According to the female, Snell left the party on foot and she later went home at around 11 p.m. to go to sleep.
The woman told the officer that at some point she woke up to find a man on top of her and engaging in sexual intercourse. According to the woman, she grabbed her rifle from the headboard, shoved it in his chest and told the man to get off of her. The male grabbed his trousers and headed down the hallway. She then realized the male was Snell, who she says she was friends with but never romantically, the report said.
An officer with the Indiana State Police Department later spoke with Snell. During this conversation, Snell admitted that he was in the female’s residence with his pants off and on top of her. Snell also admitted that their genitals were touching. Snell then wrote an apology letter to the female stating he was disgusted with himself and he was wrong.
Snell was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 3, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
