WARSAW 3, HOMESTEAD 2
Warsaw had to go the distance to keep its record spotless Monday night, and Homestead made them earn every minute of it.
The two teams took part in a varsity match that lasted over three hours, won by Warsaw 25-21, 27-25, 12-25, 23-25, 15-6.
The emphatic win for Warsaw had a host of players get into the action. Kennedy Lauck led the way with 18 kills and five blocks against a very tall and rangy Homestead front line, and the duo of Gwyn Bellamy and Betty Barnett each had 11 kills. Kyle Smith led the backline with 18 digs and chipped in four aces, and Avery Hales again filled the stat sheet with 45 assists, 16 digs, eight kills and four aces.
The Warsaw JV won in three games and the freshman team also won in three. Lauren Eastwood had 14 assists and Mallory Mulligan had six kills in the freshman win.
Warsaw (6-0) next play Saturday in the star-studded Mishawaka Invite.
WAWASEE 3, LAKELAND 0
Wawasee remained unbeaten at home this season, taking care of Lakeland Monday night at the Hardwood Teepee. The first two games were as tight as could be, with Wawasee escaping with matching 25-23 scores. Game three Wawasee would pull away for a 25-18 clincher.
Several had a hand in the home win, led by Madi Simmons’ 13 digs and seven aces. Liz Kleopfer added 11 assists and seven kills, Leslie Vazquez 10 digs and five kills, and Kai Jamora helped on 12 Wawasee points.
“A solid win after a tough loss at Valley. Improving every day,” stated Wawasee head coach Jeff Phillips.
The Wawasee junior circuit took its first loss of the season, losing to Lakeland 22-25, 25-16, 11-15. Delaney Hare had a nice night for the home side, posting 12 digs and seven aces while Amanda Allen hoisted 25 assists.
“Just a few too many errors on our side, but well played by Lakeland,” said Wawasee JV coach Bri Foster, whose team falls to 6-1 on the season.
Wawasee (2-1) visits Central Noble Tuesday night.
ROCHESTER 3, TRITON 0
Triton started to figure it out, but was little too late Monday at Rochester. The Zebras rushed Triton 25-15 in game one, only for the next two games to play more competitively in a 25-23, 25-21 capper for the Zebra sweep.
A wide cast of characters contributed to the Trojan cause, led by four kills apiece from Jaela Faulkner and Abbey Viers. Emma Hepler and Dylanie Miller combined for 16 assists, Alyxa Viers had a pair of aces, and Molly McFarland and Matisyn Davis teamed for 24 digs.
The Rochester JV swept Triton 25-23, 25-7.
Triton (1-3) aim to get the ball rolling quickly at rival Bremen Tuesday.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY C-TEAM 0-2 ON ROAD
Valley’s C-Team lost a pair of games Monday night at Plymouth. The Vikes lost to the hosts 25-24, 25-20, and to South Bend St. Joe 25-24, 25-17. Stats were not provided from the two games.
NORTHWOOD C-TEAM 2-0 ON ROAD
NorthWood squeaked out two wins Monday, beating Concord and South Bend Adams. The Panthers took care of South Bend Adams 25-17, 25-15 and edged Concord 25-18. 22-25, 15-14. Stats were not provided from the two games.
NORTHWOOD 8TH GRADE 2, LAKEVIEW 0
NorthWood won a pair of air tight contests against Lakeview by counts of 25-23, 25-24. Leading NorthWood were Karis Bennett with nine kills, Macie Knepp with eight aces and Callie Johnson with 13 assists and three aces. Kenzie Chivington had five aces, two assists, two digs and a kill while Clara Porter added four assists, two kills and an ace for the Tigers.
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, NORTHWOOD 0
The seventh grade contests went to Lakeview in a 25-13, 25-24 series. Maggie Hollon and Daihya Chupp combined for eight aces, four kills, five digs and three assists for the Tigers.
WAWASEE 7TH GRADE 2, INDIAN SPRINGS 0
The Lady Warriors were victorious by scores of 25-15, 25-22. Izzy Gonzalez and Addie Beasley were standouts for Wawasee with strong net play per coach Crystal Smith.
INDIAN SPRINGS 8TH GRADE 2, WAWASEE 1
Indian Springs and Wawasee went three sets, with Springs winning 25-5, 23-25, 15-5. Wawasee had Aly McClintic and Abby Burelison contribute strong play at the net and Jolie Likens lead in serves.
