Some Local Movement In Diamond Sectionals
INDIANAPOLIS – Some local teams will be moving around with the announcement of the IHSAA’s baseball and softball sectional realignments.
Most notable is the Class 3-A Sectional 21 grid. Fairfield dropping down to Class 2-A forced a change in both the baseball and softball alignments. Baseball will still be a six-team sectional, with Fairfield and Angola exiting and Jimtown joining the group that keeps Lakeland, NorthWood, Tippecanoe Valley, Wawasee and West Noble. The softball sectional 21 will stay a five-team bracket, but Fairfield and Tippecanoe Valley leave in favor of Jimtown and NorthWood joining. Fairfield drops down to Class 2-A No. 35 with the likes of Westview and LaVille. Valley will also move to Class 2-A in softball, going to No. 37, a six-teamer with Cass, Manchester, Rochester, Wabash and Whitko.
The old Class 1-A No. 51 alignments for both baseball and softball move to No. 50, baseball’s seven-team staying the same in Argos, Culver, LaCrosse, Oregon-Davis, South Bend Career Academy, South Central Union Mills and Triton. The softball grid will keep Argos, Culver, LaCrosse, South Central and Triton, but lose West Central in favor of South Bend Career Academy.
Warsaw’s tournament pals stay the same on both sides. The Class 4-A No. 4 baseball tourney is a seven-teamer with Penn, Goshen, Elkhart Central, Elkhart Memorial, Northridge, Concord and Warsaw. It will become a six-team grid in 2020 when Central and Memorial merge into Elkhart High School. The softball Class 4-A No. 4 softball tourney is a six-teamer with Elkhart Central, Elkhart Memorial, Goshen, Concord, Northridge and Warsaw. It will become a five-team grid in 2020 when Central and Memorial merge into Elkhart High School.
