Roose, Lakers Too Strong
LAGRANGE – It wasn’t the introduction Wawasee wanted.
In its girls soccer season opener, the Lady Warriors were barnstormed by host Lakeland, 11-1, Monday afternoon.
Keirstin Roose had a field day, scoring five goals to lead the Lakers to a lopsided win in a matchup of sectional rivals.
Wawasee scored its only goal when Nadia Palacios tucked home the tally on an assist from Allie Haberman late in the second half.
The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Sarah Fredericks, who took over the girls program at Wawasee from Tracy Walesa.
Wawasee (0-1) hosts West Noble Wednesday in its home opener.
