Future Of Gym To Be Discussed At Meeting
BOURBON — Triton School Corporation (Etna Green, Tippecanoe, and Bourbon) is holding a public meeting from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, to discuss the future of the Bourbon Community Center “Old Gym” now that the new Triton Activity Center is complete. The meeting will be held in the “Old Gym.”
Following the meeting the Bourbon Summer Basketball League will be holding one of its final games of the season.
With the recent completion of the Triton Activities Center, many conversations quickly turn to asking about the fate of the Bourbon Community Center, better known as the “Old Gym.” In 2014, the 501c3 Friends of the Old Gym was created to garner interest in how to better utilize this aging facility. At the time it was still greatly used for elementary and junior high practices during the busy winter months. The upkeep of this facility and the lack of intended use does not fiscally allow the school to maintain or update the existing building. There are, however, uses that still may meet a need in the community.
That said, it is time to give one last opportunity for interested individuals to come forth with serious proposals, to see if there is a need to refurbish this landmark. The school will be sharing the terms of the request for proposal, the timeline and steps to be taken during the next eight months will be clearly outlined.
