Wilbur O. Wheadon, 88, Rochester, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
As a youth, he graduated from Fulton High School and was an avid basketball player as a student. On May 28th, 1949, he and Joretta Ranz were married in Rochester. They shared 70 years of life’s adventures together. They had one son, Ron Wheadon of Rochester. Later they were blessed with four grandchildren, Laurie, Jim, Paul, and Golda, then three great-grandchildren, Cree, Wade, and Ailene, along with three great-great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Kain and Zeyden.
He worked throughout the years as a skilled mechanic working with John Deere and McMahon O’Connor. He had a love for fast motorcycles, ice fishing, hunting, trapping and being in nature. You would often catch him outside in the backyard overlooking his vast vegetable garden while bird watching. With the eye of a true artist and as an excellent carpenter, Wilbur enjoyed making anything from birdhouses to lawn furniture to custom home furnishings for family members, along with wood burned wall art.
Wilbur Wheadon is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joretta, son Ron, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his sister-in-law, Cheryl Leeds and her husband, Bob Hellrung. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Volney and Anita, stepmother, Lois, brother, Doyne, granddaughter, Laurie, and daughter-in-law, Bridget.
Per Wilbur’s wishes there will be a private family service. Preferred memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice of Rochester.
