Weather Service Warns Of Excessive Heat Thursday To Saturday
WARSAW — An excessive heat watch for later this week has been issued by the National Weather Service,
The watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening as high temps are expected to move into the mid-90s and the heat indices will range from around 105 to 110 degrees.
An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible, the weather service said.
The weather service suggests people drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
The weather service warns that:
- Heat illnesses are likely for those spending prolonged periods outside or in non-air conditioned locations.
- Prolonged heat is most dangerous for young children and the elderly.
- Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
The high temperature for Wednesday, July 17, is expected to be 88, but the heat index will be near 96, the weather service said.
Thursday includes a chance for showers. The high will be about 93, but the heat index will be 105.
Friday will be sunny and hot with a high near 96.
There is a chance of storms on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday will be sunny with a high of 95. Sunday will see a high of 90.
