WARSAW — The Warsaw 13/14 all-star baseball team swept the Indiana District 14 Tournament over the weekend to claim the district championship and advance to New Prairie to play District 1 champion South Haven Friday night at 6 p.m. The winner of that best-of-three series will advance to play in the state championship tournament next week.
Warsaw’s all-stars went 6-0 at their district tourney, outscoring opponents by a cumulative 88 runs to 25. They defeated Cleveland Township 18-8, Mishawaka 13-3, New Prairie 16-12, Goshen 16-1, Chet Waggoner 15-0 in the semifinals and Goshen 10-1 in a championship rematch Sunday.
Tyler Swartz collected three pitching wins, while J.W. McCleary, Josh Reihl and Josh Shapiro collected a win apiece on the mound, and Khareus Miller earned a save.
The team roster is McCleary, Reihl, Swartz, Miller, Shapiro, Jayce Sawyer, Jette Woodward, Andrew Setser, Ian Nichols, Corbin Johnston, Andrew Weeks, Eric Pohl and Caden Binkley. Team manager is Cedric Poage, and assistant coaches are Andy McCleary and Rich Reihl. The Warsaw Little League Board of Directors President is Tony Clay.
