Despite Learning Curve, Car Soccer A Success
WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Community Fair unveiled its first-ever Car Soccer event at the Warsaw Motor Sport Complex Thursday night, and, despite a learning curve, a good time was had by both the audience and the competitors.
The event featured three heats in the demolition derby ring set up for Friday night’s motor sports finale — two car-on-car heats and one heat featuring CAT versus Case loaders. The inflatable soccer balls initially used were abandoned after they were popped and patched up multiple times through the first two heats, and blue barrels were brought in as substitutes during the second heat and used to much greater effect. Excavators were positioned at each end of the ring to serve as goalkeepers and even went head-to-head briefly during the third and final heat. The hauler showcase seemed to be a particular fan favorite, and the operators appeared to enjoy the games just as much, wearing smiles on their faces throughout.
Motor sports will conclude Friday night with the seventh annual demolition derby, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m.
