Dupont is one of just three hospitals nationwide, and one of four hospitals worldwide, to achieve four SRC Center of Excellence accreditations.

Fort Wayne —  Four areas of surgical care at Dupont Hospital have received Center of Excellence accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation, an internationally recognized patient safety organization. The accreditations include:

• Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
• Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology
• Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery
• Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery 

Dupont is one of just three hospitals nationwide, and one of four hospitals worldwide, to achieve four SRC Center of Excellence accreditations. Dupont is also the first hospital in Indiana to achieve four SRC Center of Excellence accreditations, and is the state’s first Center of Excellence in both minimally invasive surgery and hernia surgery.

“As part of this process, seven local surgeons participated in the accreditation review,” said Lorenzo Suter, chief executive officer, Dupont Hospital. “As a result, each has qualified for the SRC designation of Master Surgeon in their particular category of surgical practice. The skills of our team members make these designations possible.”

Dupont earned its accreditations after SRC’s rigorous site inspection, which included a thorough review of surgical outcomes data, medical records and internal processes. The inspection determined that the hospital meets or exceeds SRC’s comprehensive requirements in all four surgical specialties.

SRC accreditation programs help to ensure the safest, highest quality of care is delivered to surgery patients worldwide, regardless of where they choose to have their procedure performed. Each program is structured to help hospitals continuously improve care quality and patient safety while reflecting specific needs of patients and the unique roles and responsibilities of surgery providers. 

“With any achievement of this nature, we as a hospital immediately look to see what needs to be done to maintain those high standards while further developing the care we provide,” said Chris Butler, executive director of clinical operations, Dupont Hospital. “We look forward to the Surgical Review Corporation’s return in three years to measure the growth of these four Centers of Excellence.”
