Mentone Prepares For Summer ‘Sprinkling Credit’
MENTONE — Mentone’s Clerk-Treasurer, Barb Ross took a moment during the regular monthly meeting of the town board Wednesday, June 5, to remind town residents to let her know if there will be extra water usage over the next three months.
“I would like to remind people about the sprinkling credit,” Ross said.
Despite recent wet weather, the town allows for a credit during June, July and August for people who use extra water for gardening or recreation.
“People who have an abundance of flowers or a pool and they fill it, then we’ll adjust the sewer portion of their bill,” Ross said. The adjustment, according to Ross, are based on the resident’s average usage. “It’s just for June, July and August, which are supposedly the driest months of the year. We’ve been doing that for years.”
Ross said residents have until June 20 to contact her if they think that all or one of those months will be months where they use more than their average amount of water.
“They must notify the office by the 20th of the month,” she said. “We are not going to go back in and adjust anything if they don’t do it. By the 20th of June, they need to notify me. Just because you had it last year, doesn’t automatically qualify you for this year.”
Ross said residents need to let her know this month, even if they don’t use extra water until July or August. When she sets up the credit, she sets it up for the three-month period and the credit only gets activated for those months where usage is above average.
