Pierceton Man Arrested For Two Cases Involving Intimidation, Home Improvement Fraud
KOSCIUSKO — A Pierceton man was recently arrested on two warrants regarding intimidation and home improvement fraud.
In the first case, Kevin Lee Staley, 47, 401 E. Keith St., Pierceton; also showing an address of 322 Bayou St., Vincennes, is being charged with intimidation, a level 6 felony; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor; and failure to stop after a vehicle accident, a class B misdemeanor. In the second case, Staley is being charged with home improvement fraud, a level 6 felony.
On March 21, 2018, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a hit-and-run vehicle accident near SR 13, just north of US 30. When the officer arrived at the scene, he observed a white GMC Envoy with driver’s side damage.
The officer then spoke with the female driver. According to the affidavit of probable cause, the female said a male subject, identified as Staley, had pulled up behind her vehicle and approached her, saying he wanted to talk with her. The female told Staley she needed to leave and drove off.
As the female was driving, Staley followed her in his vehicle and called her cellphone. Staley asked the female if she was going to talk to him and she said, “No I am not.” Staley then said “You’re going to die, *****,” and drove his vehicle into the side of her vehicle. After driving his vehicle into the female’s, Staley left the scene.
On July 31, 2018, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office spoke with a male subject at a residence. The male advised that on Oct. 17, 2017, he entered into a home improvement contract with Staley to remove an old fence and install a new picket fence. The total amount of the contract was $4,830 and he wrote Staley a check in the amount of $2,415. The male said the check was cashed on Oct. 30, 2017.
Staley removed the old fence posts in November 2017 but has not completed the job. The male said he has not been able to contact Staley since April or early May of 2018.
Staley was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 4, 2019, with a $58,500 surety and cash bond.
