Artists Recognized During Lakeland Art Association Spring Show
WARSAW — Sunday, May 19, the Lakeland Art Association held their annual Spring Juried Show reception and awards ceremony at the Lakeland Art Center & Gallery. Professional artists from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio submitted 87 pieces of fine art in many different mediums.
This year’s show judge, Ann Shive of Crestwoods Gallery, awarded honorable mentions to; Kenton Yoder, Susan Ring, Paul Raiman, Elizabeth Wamsley, Kelly Shoemaker and Kelly Brace. Third place was awarded to Joel Fremion for his fabric portrait titled Portrait of a Musician. The judge stated this piece of work contained great composition and use of color to express emotion and passion. Second place winner was Ted Simmerling for his piece titled Awakening. The judge said this piece was simple yet complex with great composition. First place went to Elizabeth Wamsley for her ceramics piece titled Burning. This piece is a fantastic use of shape, texture and color according to the judge.
Best of Show went to Cinda Culver for her charcoal drawing, Pearl. The judge said this piece holds emotional appeal, has expressive use of line and the direct gaze of the model captivates the viewer. Cinda Culver also won the People’s Choice award for her drawing, Pearl.
The Lakeland Art Association thanks the Tucker Family Foundation who sponsored our Best of Show award and Dave Taylor and Joann Kolbe who sponsored the People’s Choice award.
The Spring Juried Show will be available to the public until June 3. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and there is no entry fee. Stop in and challenge your creative spirit.
Next on the calendar for LAA is an acrylics class on June 1. This is a beginner’s class. Artist Tammy Davis will teach this class from 1-4 p.m. and the cost of $40 includes all supplies.
The mission of LAA is to further the visual arts and encourage the next generation of artist and potential art enthusiasts by promoting and supporting visual arts education and events within Kosciusko county.
