NORTHFIELD 3, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 2
Northfield made its singles play hold up to close out the Three Rivers Conference slate for both teams.
Chloe Miller, Kelcie Thomson and Macie Sears all filed away wins for the Norse, Sears’ and Gigi Engstrand battling out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 final at three singles that swung the match for the visitors from Wabash County.
Doubles play has been the benchmark of Valley’s run this season, and continued Monday in its regular season finale. At No. 1, the tandem of Makenna Bradley and Tiphanie Hodge ran its record to 15-1 overall with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 contest against Erin Whetstone and Lindsey Carter. At No. 2, life was smoother for Haley Baker and Kaitlin Neese in a 6-1, 6-1 result against Tori Bogert and Allysa Haupert.
For the season, the combined records of Valley dubs are 26-6, the one doubles team finishing undefeated in TRC play at 8-0.
Valley finishes its regular season 8-8 and 3-5 in the TRC. The Vikes will take on Columbia City Thursday in the Warsaw Sectional.
WAWASEE 5 WHITKO 0
Wawasee put Whitko on red alert Monday ahead of its sectional meeting later this week.
Doubles play went entirely to Wawasee, with Kaitlyn Graber and Molly Jones shutting out Jaycie Thomas and Kylie Fugett while Tate Cowan and Abby Morehead were nearly flawless in a 6-0, 6-1 win against Bailey Wright and Abigail Metz.
Singles were more of the same, as Peyton Rookstool cruised past Mahkinsey Myers 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, Elizabeth Kleopfer put away Katherine Ousley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Kendra Doerr stayed the course in a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Kayla Schipper at No. 1.
Wawasee (8-5) and Whitko meet Wednesday in the first round of the Warsaw Sectional.
PENN 5, NORTHWOOD 0
They wouldn’t have to worry about them again until State, but NorthWood was humbled by Penn Monday in Nappanee.
A pair of powerful freshmen led Penn’s singles play, with Jamie Hurst taking out Reegan Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No.1 and Mandy Baker beating Alex Jesse 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2. Abi Vorhis, filling in for an injured Gretchen Adams, couldn’t keep up with Sophie Davidson in the No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-1.
Doubles matches were tighter, but both went to the Kingsmen. Marley Kruder and Aden Moore took out Lauren Mikel and Riley Graber 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 while Ali Kumfer and Elisabeth Casetti outlasted Caroline Mullet and Kate Stillson 7-6 (5), 7-5.
NorthWood (9-4) meets Fairfield Wednesday in the first round of the NorthWood Sectional.
