Syracuse Lions Club Academic Super Bowl Recognition Banquet
SYRACUSE — On Thursday, May 9, the Syracuse Lions Club hosted its 13th Syracuse Lions Club Academic Super Bowl Recognition Banquet for the Wawasee High School students and their coaches who competed in the Academic Super Bowl this school year. The banquet, catered by Our Father’s House in Warsaw and held at the Syracuse Community Center, was attended by student competitors, parents, coaches, school administrators, and members of the Lions Club.
Syracuse Lions Club President Marie Butler-Knight welcomed everyone to the evening and gave the closing remarks. Wawasee High School Principal Kim Nguyen gave the invocation and Assistant Principal Vince Beasley introduced the coaches.
This year 17 WHS students competed in five subject areas: fine arts, social studies, science, math and English. Certificates and medals were presented to the students by coaches Amanda Wilson (fine arts and English), Ashley Justice (math), and Sarah Holsopple (science). Holsopple also presented for Elizabeth Long (social studies) who could not attend.
Following the awards presentation, Lion Past District Governor Charlie Haffner charged the students with the message “You have to see what other people don’t see and do what other people don’t do in order to be successful in life.”
