County Deputies Say Warsaw Woman Neglected Young Children
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman is facing neglect charges after police say she became under the influence of drugs and that her young children were left to wander outside the residence.
Krystal Sue Miller, 27, 340 E. Levi Lee Road, No. 94, Warsaw, is charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
According to a report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a residence in Kosciusko County on April 30 and spoke to witnesses who said they saw two young children, one wearing a diaper, walking around unsupervised while the mother was initially unresponsive inside the dwelling.
According to the report, the witnesses said two men were eventually able to awaken the woman, identified as Miller, but added that while she was unconscious, several people were seen carrying items out of her house. Those persons were gone when police arrived.
Officers reported talking to Miller, who reportedly spoke with slightly slurred speech and said she would test positive for marijuana. She reportedly told police she laid down to take a nap and had locked the front door, but added that the children knew how to unlock the lock. When police communicated with Child Protective Services, officials with that organization told police Miller had tested positive for methamphetamine.
Miller later told police she had used methamphetamine during the time of the initial incident and on one occasion, she ate the drug to keep the children from getting into it.
Miller is due in Kosciusko County Superior Court 1 on May 23 for an initial hearing.
