Police Accuse Syracuse Woman Of Forging Dying Man’s Signature
KOSCIUSKO — Police say a Syracuse woman forged the signature of her boyfriend on checks after the man was involved in a car accident that first left him paralyzed, and later dead.
Leslie Ann Patrick, 39, 7631 North CR 600E, Syracuse, is charged with three counts of forgery, a level 6 felony.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called by a woman who told officers her brother was involved in a car accident on Aug. 11, 2018, which left him paralyzed. She added that her brother died on Aug. 18, a week later. She further advised that Patrick, the man’s girlfriend, was writing checks on the man’s account and forging his name.
Police reported that the woman also accused Patrick of signing the man’s name to the title of his pickup truck. She provided police with copies of the checks and officers obtained a copy of the title, which police say showed the purchaser information as Patrick.
In the probable cause affidavit, police reported that Patrick admitted to signing two of the checks — one for $250 on Aug. 15 and one for $150 on Aug. 17 — and the truck title. She also allegedly told police she used a check for a purchase that had been written and signed by the man on the day before his accident for $150.
She was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Wednesday, April 17, on $10,250 surety and cash bond.
