Softball Results: March 28
LAKELAND 15, NORTHWOOD 2
Lakeland concluded its week with another quality win while NorthWood struggled to keep pace Thursday at Stauffer Park.
Lakeland (4-1) ended its week with a third win over a Northern Lakes Conference team, beating Wawasee and Northridge earlier in the week. The Lakers reached double digits in runs for the third time this season by swinging early and often. A 23-hit attack by the Lakers was too much for NorthWood to handle for a game that was only 2-0 entering the fifth inning.
Chloe Gust and Kierstin Roose caused all sorts of problems in the middle of the Lakeland order, Gust with five hits and Roose with a homer and five RBIs.
Kylee Palmer had four hits and three runs scored, Breeanna Lovelace and Bailey Hartsough each had three hits and a run scored, and Makayla Mast drove in two, scored two and hit two.
After Lakeland tacked on two runs in the fourth to make the score 4-0, NorthWood finally responded with a Madison Miller RBI double. But that was as close as the game would be the rest of the way as Lakeland hung four runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
Elise Edwards pitched all seven innings for the win in the circle, striking out nine and holding NorthWood to just six hits. Miller took the loss for the Panthers, giving up all 23 hits and 15 runs.
NorthWood (1-3) returns to work April 8 at West Noble.
WAWASEE JV 28, ELKHART CENTRAL 10
Another slugfest went Wawasee’s way Thursday against the Blue Blazers. Allie Slone and Laney Gross each had two hits in the attack as Wawasee moved to 2-1 on the season.
Wawasee returns to action April 8 against Fairfield.
