Sidewalks, Repaving Projects Will Benefit From Grant Money
WARSAW — Repaving projects and construction of new sidewalks will be completed with the help of $1.6 million in grant money from Indiana’s Community Crossings grant program.
Warsaw, Winona Lake and Kosciusko County were informed earlier this week that grant applications totaling $1.6 million were approved, and officials for the three taxing units say they won’t wait long to put the matching grant money to use.
Here’s how they plan to use the money:
- Kosciusko County Highway will receive up to $1 million and plans to use it on two repaving projects. That includes a 6.5 mile stretch of CR 800W known as Pick and Patch Road from US 30 to SR 19. The other road is a three-mile stretch of CR 1000W from CR 700S to CR 1000S, according to Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden.
- Winona Lake received $359,000. Officials outlined 12 road projects in their applications and received enough funding to do ten of those. Those include: Mineral Springs, Cherry Avenue, Lake John Circle, Huffman Street, Western Drive, from Widaman Street to Roy Street; Wood Street, from Kings Highway to the dead end; CR 225S from Packerton Road to town limits; Court Street, from Esplanade Street to Administration Boulevard; Widaman Street, from Roy Street to East 225S; and Faunn Street, from Roy Street to East CR 225S. Winona Lake Town Manager Craig Allebach said they have a list of other road projects they hope to tackle if they receive funding later this year in a second application round.
- Warsaw received $251,000 in grant money and will use it toward replacing and constructing new sidewalks along North Pointe Drive near Husky Trail. North Pointe is across the street from Harrison Elementary School. City Planner Jeremy Skinner said they hope to do the work this year and that it would include sidewalks on both sides.
