Intrasect Technologies Wins 20th Annual Community Quiz Bowl
WARSAW — With 51 correct answers out of 60, Intrasect Technologies won the 20th annual Warsaw Education Foundation Community Quiz Bowl.
Tiebreaker rules determined the second and third place teams. Ivy Tech Community College placed second, and Miller’s Merry Manor placed third.
Quiz Bowl categories were 2018 Year In Review, Academics, Famous Women of The Past 20 Years and Television: 20 Years Ago. Fifty-five teams registered for the bowl.
Quiz Bowl attendees were asked to donate to a great need in Warsaw Community Schools. A newly created childcare facility, known as the Warsaw Early Learning Academy, was created at Warsaw Community High School for the children of WCS employees. Academy Director Lynette Hawn shared with the Foundation the need for age-appropriate reading materials for students ages six weeks to five years old at the Academy. Nearly $3,000 was raised of which $2,000 will be dedicated to filling the shelves with classic stories and books for young children. The rest will be used for Red Apple Grants to classroom teachers.
Lake City Bank was the bowl’s half-time sponsor. Maple Leaf Farms and Warsaw Morning Optimist Club served as valedictorian level sponsors. Esther Pfleiderer Charitable Trust/1st Source Bank, Hall and Marose Silveus/Silveus Insurance Group, Teachers Credit Union, Pam and Todd Weingart and Zimmer Biomet served as honor roll level sponsors.
The Warsaw Education Foundation provides funding through community support to advance enrichment opportunities, innovative and inventive teaching, and academic exploration in Warsaw Community Schools. Through the Red Apple Grants program, the Foundation awards grants to WCS teachers for creative classroom projects. The Foundation also provides funds for annual chess tournaments, N.E.W. Opportunities Workshop for women, WCS summer STEM program scholarships and Partners in Education business/school partnership. The Foundation recognizes academic excellence through programs such as the annual Celebration of Excellence reception and the Honor an Educator program.
