WCS Chess Teams Celebrate Success At Regionals
GOSHEN — Students from several Warsaw Community Schools recently participated in the Scholastic Chess of Indiana Goshen Team Regional held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Goshen High School. Participating schools included Edgewood Middle School, Lincoln Elementary, Madison Elementary and Washington STEM Academy.
The competition attracted 51 scholastic teams from around northern Indiana hoping to secure a place at the SCI State Team Chess Championship held on March 23, in Martinsville.
Edgewood Middle School’s teams qualified for state by placing second and seventh in the eighth-grade and under section. In addition, all four teams from Lincoln Elementary qualified by placing sixth, seventh and eighth place in the sixth grade and under section and third place in the third grade and under section. Madison also qualified for state by placing 15th in the sixth grade and under section. In addition to these teams, two teams representing Warsaw Community High School will attend the state chess competition.
