Board Of Zoning Appeals Approves Variance For Wooden Staircase
WARSAW — One variance request was heard and approved during a short Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals meeting held last night, Feb. 25.
David Bedsun, 550 N. Lake St., requested a variance from developmental standards to allow a three-foot side yard setback instead of the normal five-foot setback. This variance would be used to replace dilapidated concrete steps with wooden stairs on the south side of the property.
Assitant City Planner Justin Taylor recommended the board approve the variance as it “would not have a detrimental impact on the adjacent property.”
Bedsun was unable to attend the meeting but did provide a letter to the board. The letter states that “there are existing concrete stairs that were poorly constructed with irregular rise and run dimensions. They have shifted over time and have separated, making it very difficult to descend and climb and are unsafe.”
Bedsun’s letter further states that the wooden stairs would allow safer access to the lake and “greatly improve the character and look of the house and not only its value but the value of surrounding properties.”
A few neighbors attended the meeting for clarification regarding the variance request but did not speak in favor or in opposition of the request.
The board unanimously approved the variance request.
