SYRACUSE — The cause of a fire at a residence on Eastshore Drive, Syracuse, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 23, has been listed as undetermined by fire officials with the Turkey Creek Fire Territory.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory received a call at 3:57 p.m. to the home owned by Syl Champoux, 13630 N. Eastshore Drive, Syracuse. According to fire officials, a neighbor had noticed the smoke, located the fire and attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, while his wife called 911.
The first firefighter to arrive at the scene reported an outside cooking structure that was on fire. The fire had been extinguished except for the fire with a natural gas supply line that was connected to the outside gas grill. The natural gas supply to the line was discontinued by fire personnel and the fire extinguished.
The owner, who was not home at the time of the fire, told fire officials he had used the gas grill the prior evening with no problems noted that evening or earlier Saturday.
Benton Township Fire Department was called for mutual aid with a tanker. Firefighters remained at the scene until 4:55 p.m.
Damage has been estimated up to $5,000.
